Despite any recent recent rants you may have seen about how blogging is dead or blogs are passé, the fact of the matter is that business blogging is now more important than ever. With Google’s most recent Panda algorithm updates, attributes like content freshness and social signals (strengths of blogs, not corporate websites) will gain increased importance in search ranking.

But as the blogosphere continues to expand (as noted by Diana Adams below), it becomes more difficult to stand out and be heard above the noise. How can a company launch (or relaunch) a new blog properly? Write great blog post headlines? Promote new content most effectively? Optimize blog content for search? Emulate the best corporate blogs? Take advantage of free or low-cost blog tools and resources?

Get the answers to those questions and more here in two dozen of the best blogging guides of the past year.

  • Simple Blogging Tips: Do you have an “About Me” page?

    by Paris B.

Whenever I come upon a new blog or a blog I’ve never visited before, one of the first pages I visit is the “About Me” page. It could be called anything, but it is the page about the blogger or the blog. I call mine “About Me” because I’m unimaginative but you could just as easily call it “The Blogger” or “Me, Myself and I” or “About this blog.”

I personally believe that it is important to have this “About Me” page because it will tell the reader a little bit more about you and your blog. It is also helpful for PR and companies who may stumble on your blog and want to get to know you better before contacting you. You could keep it as long as you like, or as short as you like. You may include your photo or you may opt not to – its your choice.

    Last Updated: December 18, 2011

    by Sarah Arrow.

Don’t think you have to work your SEO magic on every single old post;  just choose the ones that are already getting some traffic. Look at your stats package or Google Analytics and see what posts are currently popular and tweak them. The key here is too tweak gently and not give the poor, unsuspecting blog post a full on edit.

Other posts to tweak for better SEO include pillar /evergreen / foundation blog posts  that you’ve spent a lot of time on and they’re so great you want everyone to read them. Of course you can also go back and optimise your pages as well.
