As you may recall in The Importance of Video Marketing part 1, over 800 million unique users visit YouTube and watch over 4 billion hours of video each month. Thankfully YouTube rolled out YouTube Analytics in March 2011, located at youtube.com/analytics.

This relatively new free reporting tool provides channel owners a summary report for content on YouTube that includes in-depth analytics, reports, and statistics. Call me crazy, but a free analytics tool sounds like yet another reason you have no excuse to be ignoring such an important medium!

Although YouTube remains synonymous with funny cat videos, sports bloopers, and “Call Me Maybe” parodies, the platform also continues to emerge as an increasingly effective marketing channel for companies both large and small.

YouTube is now the second largest search engine in the U.S., generating roughly 4 billion queries per month (trailing only parent company Google), and as small business marketing services firm SKRP Media points out, YouTube clips can hold significant appeal for consumers with neither the time nor the patience to explore conventional search results like websites and articles. Moreover, YouTube videos are uniquely optimized for the social media era—each clip is a Facebook share or Twitter retweet away from going viral.

Promoting your message with video (also known as video blogging or video marketing) on the Internet is about to become even more popular as companies like Sony, Apple and Google continue to offer connected TV’s and integrated TV devices.

And, whilst in my view it’s too early to predict that online video will wipe out traditional TV, if you’re an entrepreneur, coach, speaker, author or consultant wanting to broadcast your message to a wider audience, the shift in how you advertise your business is taking place right now, and even if you decide not to get on board with video marketing or video blogging, your competitors will.

More companies are using online video to boost their marketing outreach, and with good reason. Customers are now using video to educate themselves on products and services before they buy, and that extends across both the consumer and business-to-business markets.

One survey by Eccolo Media in 2011 found that buyers of technology products ranked video third behind only brochures/data sheets and whitepapers as the type of content they consume most frequently when evaluating a purchase. Video, in fact, got a higher response rate than case studies, which suggests just how valuable the medium has become.

The more companies pick up on the video marketing trend, the more information becomes available on which video tactics produce the best results and which technologies drive the greatest efficiencies.

Here are tech tips and tricks from five companies that are making online video work for them. By learning from the experiences of these first movers, the marketing industry as a whole can increase the effectiveness of its video use and improve online video marketing results.

  • The Essential Legal Guide for Online Video Marketers

    by Grant Crowell.

Despite a vast increase in online video marketing, most marketers lack a basic understanding of the legal issues surrounding video. The consequences for that ignorance can include heavy fines, takedowns of content, account suspensions, and lawsuits, all of which can seriously hamper not only future video marketing projects but also a company’s ability to do business.

Online video’s advantage in reaching a large audience quickly can become a disadvantage when it comes to attracting unintended negative attention.

“The fact that online video can stay on the Internet for as long as the marketer wishes increases the chances that somewhere, sometime, someone will see what turns out to be offensive material,” says E. Leonard Rubin, an intellectual property and entertainment lawyer with Querrey & Harrow Ltd., in Chicago, Illinois.

    by Linda Sedloff Orton.

If your business isn’t creating online videos, you might be missing out on one of the fastest growing segments of digital advertising. Seventy-six percent of marketers at small and large companies plan to produce more videos this year, making it the top area they will invest in, according to a Social Media Examiner report.

Why are videos often preferable to many other online marketing tools? “Our brains are wired for motion,” says John Medina, a developmental molecular biologist and author. “Vision trumps all other senses.” Indeed, 65 percent of executives say they visit vendors’ websites after watching their online videos, according to a Forbes Insights white paper.

While you might be a ways off from having your videos go viral on YouTube, well-crafted, well-targeted business videos will almost certainly drive potential customers to your website. Here are some tips to help you get your video marketing campaign rolling…

  • YouTube Marketing Videos are A Massive Must!
Written by Comments Off on YouTube Marketing Videos are A Massive Must!
    Last Updated: June 30, 2012

    by Jo Ellen Silberstein.

    • YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world! If you are serious about marketing, then making YouTube videos has be your top priority.
    • I am not talking about film school, flawless, polished videos.  According to YouTube guru and founder of Video Traffic Academy, James Wedmore, highly effective YouTube  videos can be made relatively cheaply, simply and fast. They must have value (of course), be entertaining, and worth “liking,” commenting on and sharing.
    • Example:  West Coast Real Estate agent Hillary Castmore is a wonderful example of how inventive you can be and give great value.  One of her video s, where she came up wit h the idea of sneaking into the seller’s house and falling in love with it (The Adventures of Hillary Caston) grabbed 24,388 views!  She’s so busy with business from her YouTube videos, according to Wedmore, she doesn’t have time to make many videos.
    • If you have value, entertainment and shareworthiness going for your video, your video will drive tons of traffic to your website (or landing pages) and will rise in YouTube rankings — yes, YouTube ranks your videos, just like Google. Done properly, your YouTube video can be number one in your category or come up first when your keywords are searched.
