10 Ways Social Media Will Change In 2010
This article was written by Ravit Lichtenberg.
“This time last year, I wrote about the 10 ways social media will change 2009, and while all predictions have materialized or are on their way, it has only become clear in recent months how significant of a change we’ve seen this year. 2009 will go down as the year in which the shroud of uncertainty was lifted off of social media and mainstream adoption began at the speed of light. Barack Obama’s campaign proved that social media can mobilize millions into action, and Iran’s election protests demonstrated its importance to the freedom of speech.”

Research shows small business owners struggle with Twitter
The source for this report is “Engaging Small Businesses Through Social Media.”
“The latest research report from Business.com shows that small business owners are still trying to figure out Twitter … but those who have mastered it are seeing an advantage.
The expansive report covering 1,711 small business decision makers showed that of all the social media channels, Twitter was the least-used. Just 27 percent of the respondents were active on the micro-blogging site.
But even that figure may be deceptively high – the survey sample was of business leaders already using some form of the social web. Translation: This is why you are still getting blank stares when you talk to most small business decision makers about Twitter.”

How Twitter is Revolutionizing Business
This article is form Jason Ankeny.
“The buzzed-about social media platform presents a direct channel to customers, a launching pad for new projects and a sounding board for innovation.
Laura Fitton was a self-described “homebound mom with two kids under 2″ when she signed up for Twitter in 2007. Two years later, she’s at the vanguard of a new wave of Twitter-inspired entrepreneurs.
“There was no decision to make Twitter the focus of my career,” Fitton says. “Twitter decided for me. Somehow I became a Twitter-for-business consultant without ever calling myself that.”
Fitton’s enthusiasm for the possibilities of what she calls “enterprise microsharing” motivated her to revive her Pistachio Consulting business in September 2008 to connect clients to new ideas and innovation in social media. Since then, she has co-authored the book Twitter for Dummies and launched oneforty.com, an online storefront that aggregates the sprawling Twitter application ecosystem in a central, user-friendly repository. Her Twitter feed, which combines personal musings with insight on Twitter’s role in business collaboration, attracts about 40,000 followers.”

8 Characters to Make Your Tweets Sparkle
This article was written by Rhys Wynne.
“On Twitter, you have 140 characters to play with. Most people stick to the 26 letters, 10 numbers, half a dozen punctuation marks and currency signs. Fact is, underneath your fingers there are a treasure trove of characters to make your tweets more interesting, shorter & more colourful.
By making your tweets stand out, you will get more people actively reading them because subconsciously your eyes are drawn to them. If your tweets are useful (and I’ve no reason to doubt why they should be), you should end up with more clicks on links, more retweets and generally more twitter love.
Here’s a few of my favourite special characters that I like to put in Tweets…”

After social networks, what next?
This article was written by Mercedes Bunz.
“In digital media, as in fortune-telling, the future is pretty much treated as part of the present. “What is the next big thing?” is a question everyone who works with the internet asks continually. But after several years of boom, the question of what comes after social platforms is no longer so remote.
Luckily, some experts just gave us answers. On Monday evening, the Said Business School in Oxford had invited some very bright and successful entrepreneurs who spoke in front of a packed alumni audience as Silicon Valley came to Oxford for the ninth year. The event was chaired by the very lively and assertive Frances Cairncross, rector of Exeter college.”
