“In ecology, a niche refers to the place or position occupied by an organism or a population within an ecological community called the ecosystem. It is the term which defines the role the organism or the population plays in the general scheme of things. The niche an organism or a population holds is the one responsible for dictating the ability of the species to survive. It is the one which spells whether an organism or a population will perish or thrive.

In marketing, a niche refers to a service or a product that occupies a special area of demand. It is that small corner in the market that accounts for a certain kind of specialty concerning an unmet customer need. To be able to attract a strong, solid market, the choice of a niche product should ultimately complement the website one owns. It is through this scheme that you are able to generate a specific market for the niche product you are trying to sell.”

“What is a niche exactly? To best answer this question, it might be easiest to reply with, what isn’t a niche? You see, virtually everything around us, everything we use, everything we can possibly learn about or know, everything we experience falls into one category or another.

A niche, simply put then, is a category. But within those categories there are sub-categories, or sub-niches where everything in the universe can fit in its own place.”

A post about getting more blog traffic or living more frugally may be interesting the first time you read about it. Maybe it’ll even catch your attention the fifth or tenth time you see it.

But what about the 50th time? Or the 100th? Doesn’t it get a little … tired?”

  • Launching a product into a niche market is far cheaper than launching a mass-market product

“A niche market is a small group of customers who share a characteristic that makes them receptive to a particular product or service. This characteristic may be no more complicated than the fact that they fancy a luxury chocolate every now and then.

Launching a product into a niche market is far cheaper than launching a mass-market product. Potential customers are easier to identify and to target. Niche markets often develop as a subset of mass markets (the market for invalid cars, for example, or for left-handed oven gloves), and mass-market manufacturers sometimes choose to launch niche products as well. Chrysler, for instance, manufactures the Dodge Viper, a niche vehicle that sells in extremely limited quantities to hard-core motor enthusiasts. Fiat produces the Ferrari.”
