Did you set up your blog using Internet Explorer? Check out what your blog looks like on Mozilla, Chrome and other browsers. Do you have a large monitor? Go find a small laptop and see what it looks like on that. Or vice-versa.

If you generally blog on a small NetBook or laptop get on a large monitor and check what it looks like on larger resolution. 85% of users are on a screen higher than 1024×768. About 6.5% are on a resolution of 1680×1050. That is a huge difference. You want to be sure your blog does not show up all wacky on a big screen.

People always ask me how my blog is doing and their follow-up question is, “Are you making any money at it?” I have an answer to that question and it’s got 11 parts but here’s the bottom line: I’m having fun creating a business out of what I’m passionate about. It’s so wonderful to have “made up a job for myself” and doing all of the items on this list.

I’m thankful every day to have the opportunity to do this. I love that people read what I’ve written – thank you!! I love interacting with readers and especially when I get to meet them in person. I love how my blog/business is creating opportunities for me that I otherwise would not have had. I love setting my own schedule. Neither Martha Stewart nor Oprah Winfrey have called me with any show offers but I’m sure it’s just right around the corner.

I’m often asked how do I manage to come up with so many topics and am able to publish so many articles while still being a Mom, wife and homemaker. I have fresh content every day with the exception of Sundays and the occasional Saturday. How do I find the time? What could I give as blogging tips to help others have more content when they are running out of ideas?

My secret recipe? I have an array of blogging tips that help me to always have topics and content waiting to be written on the sidelines for whenever I draw a blank or have a break in my review schedule. But one of the easiest blogging tips is to always have my camera with me! Quite literally, I keep it with me when we go to Grandma’s house, when we go to the store, when we go out to eat! Everywhere! That way I am always ready to capture all that life delivers.

As a blogger who blogs a great deal for myself and for the Vancouver Internet Marketing firm I work for, I often get questions from those starting out on what tips I’d recommend for the newbies. And I’m more than happy to help out with a few basic tips of my own.

But first I’d like to point out that you can learn a lot about successful blogging techniques just from looking at the high-ranking blogs in your niche. Look for:

    • What kinds of content they are providing
    • How they are engaging readers
    • Frequency of blog publishing
    • The experts they call on to provide professional advice and help

However, in the meantime, here are my personal tips for newbie bloggers…

    by Beth.

As we’ve mentioned before, planning increases your chances of writing an effective, successful blog, and part of that planning is creating a list of good topics for each post.

When you’re brainstorming topics, there’s one simple question to ask yourself as you select your blog post topics: Will readers feel they wasted their time after reading the piece?

If the answer is no, you’ve got yourself a keeper. This question also works well from a search engine optimization (SEO) standpoint: If your readers find a topic interesting and useful, the search engines likely will, too.

The articles divided into points, in other words the list posts, have a great success among readers in the blogosphere, because they are easy to read, they avoid unnecessary chatter and they are rich of information.

Writing a list post, means to organize content in a structure that is particularly suited to the web, but this does not mean that you can simply number some stuff and just publish it, in order to get retweets, comments or academics kisses.
