In order for your business to succeed with Twitter marketing, your costumers and prospects must be able to find you. Actually you must find them. In this article I’m going to explain what I mean with finding them and how you can do it.

When you market your product or service on Twitter, you need followers that might be interested in what you have to offer. You need to target followers to your particular niche in order to be effective with Twitter marketing.

The beautiful part with Twitter is that there is an unwritten rule that says that if you follow someone they will follow you back. Everyone is not aware of this rule but it is embedded in the social media culture.

  • Universities are hungry for social-media savvy

Back in the late 1990s, when Alexandra Samuel was working on her doctorate in political science at Harvard University, she had this crazy pitch: she wanted to write her dissertation on politics and the Internet. She ended up taking three years off. No one at Harvard at the time, she said, thought the Internet was worth writing about.

Fast-forward to today, and postsecondary institutions are ravenous for experts to teach social media, Samuel told the Georgia Straight. Fortunately, she is one. Her 2004 dissertation was on hacktivism (computer hacking mixed with political activism), she’s been teaching undergraduate classes in online activism since 2001, and she founded the pioneering social-media-marketing agency Social Signal in 2005.

Universities’ hunger for Web 2.0 expertise, Samuel said, is challenging. Businesses are clamouring for graduates who can deliver in social media. Students recognize they need to know how to use it. But the social-media field is so new—dating back to around 2006—that students and teachers are learning together as it evolves. The important thing, Samuel said, is that everyone grasps it.

Let’s just be honest, writing a blog and not having people read the entire blog is just no fun.

But most bloggers tend to be people who both read and write blogs, so we really should allow our own reading behaviors to be a prime candidate as to how we write our blogs – yet for many bloggers that is not the case and they fail to take into consideration how people enjoy reading.

It is important to remember that reading your blog needs to be enjoyable.

There is a common myth out there we only use 10% of our brains. While this myth may have been debated for many years amongst scientists, Kevin Knebl is pretty sure that most people are only using 10% of what they could be using on LinkedIn (http://www.linkedin.com). I caught up with Kevin, who is a speaker, trainer and advisor in relationship enhancement and networking for business (as well as a professional piano player) in his home in Colorado last week via Skype.

Kevin has been teaching and training professionally for 16 years, now, primarily in the area of networking and relationships. When social media came along, he jumped on that bandwagon pretty quick, because he could see how these tools could be useful for networking.

We’ve been talking about the expansive eMarketer report, “7 Trends For Online Video Advertising Engagement,” for most of this week, breaking down the first four trends they’ve outlined over two articles (part 1 & part 2). This is our third and final look, focusing on the final three video advertising engagement trends: user control, viral video marketing, and social activity.

Even though we’ve broken our coverage of this report down over three articles, it’s still not doing justice to the mountain of great graphs, data, and case-studies it contains, and I’d encourage you to make some time to read through the whole thing–at least… if you’re concerned about the engagement levels of your videos’ audience.
